Athletic Coach (Secondary Grades 6-12)

ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT MISSION: GRPS will create educational opportunities and experiences, through athletics, that will enhance student achievement, student development and school culture.
JOB SUMMARY
A coach is responsible for organizing athletes and teaching them the fundamentals of sport. A coach is responsible for training them to compete as a team and individually.

- Developing the knowledge and understanding of Grand Rapids policies and procedures as it applies to athletics.
- Promoting and enforcing the student-athlete code of conduct.
- Connecting athletic experiences with life experiences.
- Providing an atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration among coaches and players
- Becoming an integral part of and developing rapport with the Grand Rapids community including administration, coaches, parents, and students.
- Modeling good sportsmanship always.
- Creating and maintaining a safe and healthy environment for student athletes.
- Understanding their leadership style and its impact on student-athletes.
- Game and practice attire should be professional and appropriate.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Must be 18 years of age or older and clear a criminal background check.
- Playing experience at the high school or college level and/or coaching experience required
- Proof of current First Aid and CPR certifications prior to the first day of coaching
- Must provide certificate of completion for online concussion training course from either the Centers for Disease Control or the National Federation of State High School Associations prior to the first day of coaching.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust/focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Work is performed indoors although there will be required outdoor activities. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being, and work output of students.
MENTAL FUNCTIONS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to compare, analyze, communicate both orally and in writing, copy, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, compile, and negotiate.
