INTERVENTION SPECIALIST

Department:             Public Safety & School Security

Unit:                          No Benefits

Hourly:                      $15.77

 

 

JOB SUMMARY

The primary focus of the Intervention Specialist is to provide support for school age scholars who need extra behavioral support in continuing their education. The Specialist will work with assigned scholars by keeping them engaged in the learning process, which will lead to school success. The Specialist will also work with parents and families as requested by the principal or Public Safety Office personnel.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Assist with team approach (student, family, teachers, specialist, and principal) to assess appropriate intervention
  • Visit with identified students to identify suitable options and help resolve
  • Assist students with being proactive in making choices that will lead to their
  • Develop a positive relationship with students and school
  • Work as part of the school team and assist with creating a safe and orderly en
  • Assist other staff members in monitoring the halls and encouraging students to attend
  • Make telephone calls to parents and home visits if
  • Participate with the school team in reviewing student data on attendance, suspensions, and expulsion and compare to last year’s data.
  • Attend assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of one semester of post-Secondary course work at an institute of hiring learning.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working in educational setting.
  • Experience working with at-risk students and
  • Experience in education, criminal justice, social work and/or human

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to effectively function as a professional team member
  • Possesses high level of communication skills (oral and written).
  • Must be able to deal with the multiplicity of an urban community

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is medium work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk, hear (in a quiet or noisy environment). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust/focus.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud moderate. Most work is indoors but outdoor work may be required.

 

MENTAL FUNCTIONS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to compare, analyze, communicate both orally and in writing, copy, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, compile, and negotiate.
